What Is MEUK?

Montessori Education(UK) is the national standards body for Montessori education in Britain. We hope you enjoy finding out more about the many aspects of Montessori, from the point of view of parents, students, practitioners, settings, quality standards, training, teaching, best practice and information about who Maria Montessori was and what she achieved.

Parents can find out what to look for in a true Montessori setting; students can research accredited Montessori training providers and practitioners can pursue on-going professional development through our website. We are seeking to strengthen the Montessori education sector in the UK by building a resilient and committed community of people who feel passionate about the Montessori approach, and providing a system for Recognition of Authentic Montessori Practice is one of our tools for achieving this.

Who are MEUK?

MEUK is a collaborative group made up of the three main Montessori training providers in the UK. These are Bournemouth Montessori Centre, Montessori Partnership and AMI. Each of the organisations train adults to become Montessori teachers and practitioners. If you are interested in undertaking a Montessori training course, either to support your child’s educational journey or because you would like to take your career in a different direction, the MEUK training providers offer training that is accredited by various organisations and governmental agencies, to ensure an authentic learning experience.

Each provider offers a different style of course delivery and while we are in friendly competition in business, we are old colleagues and friends who have joined together to ensure that Montessori education for the children of the UK comes from top-notch settings staffed with expert teachers.

Our Patrons

ME UK is proud to have Michael & Clare Morpurgo as its patrons. Michael Morpurgo is the author of numerous books for children, many of which have been made into films. He also writes his own screenplays and libretti for opera. Born in St Albans, Hertfordshire, in 1943, he was evacuated to Cumberland during the last years of the war, then returned to London, moving later to Essex. After a brief and unsuccessful spell in the army, he took up teaching and started to write.

He left teaching after ten years in order to set up ‘Farms for City Children’ with his wife. They have three farms in Devon, Wales and Gloucestershire, open to inner-city school children who come to stay and work with the animals. In 1999 this work was publicly recognised when he and his wife were awarded an MBE for services to youth and in 2018 he was awarded a knighthood for services to literature and charity.

Michael and Clare are also parents and grandparents, so children have always played a large part in both their lives. Every year they and their family spend time in the Scilly Isles, the setting for three of Michael’s books.

Montessori Education UK is a registered charity in the UK, Registered Charity No. 1089282.
